I’ve avoided discipline my whole life, not realizing the freedom that lies inside of a sturdy structure. This new daily writing habit sets me free because I don’t spend all day with this dark, looming thing hanging over my head. The book. The book I promised. The book that needs light and air. The book I should be writing. That specter can hang over my whole day, and the more I put it off, the worse it gets, the harder to resume.
Showing up 5 days a week for a simple hour with writing fellows is changing my entire experience. I am making an appointment with my best and true self and keeping it.
