Caravaggio, Pigeons, Taxis, Apollo, & Marvin Gaye
You are invited to co-write with us today! It's an act of self-compassion to show up and remove the dark cloud that hovers, reminding you that you should be writing. Weekdays at 1:00 we gather online.
December 1:
I believe I ran into some huge Caravaggios at a church today walking the alleyways of Ortigia. Cats, pigeons, and motorbikes have the right of way. You can see ships masts sway in the distance, framed by stone walls that end abruptly at the sea. City of fish, of course also the city of cats. The hustlers of the pedal-taxis hover around the Temple Of Apollo, smoking and calling. I bet it was the same thousands of years ago when the temple was new - coffee, taxis, souvenir hawkers, travelers on water and foot. If you don’t shoo the pigeons away they settle around you on the backs of chairs at the cafe across the street. They groom their grey feathers, arching their necks back to show the blue and purple iridescent sheen. What luck to be so old that you can sit and notice how gorgeous pigeons are.
Today it’s warm enough to swim. But my luggage wait’s in no-man’s land between two lodgings. I sit in the cafe in the middle drinking coffee, waiting for the magic passcode, only delivered at 14:00 hours. There is a tiny vinyl palace on the corner of my alleyway, spinning Marvin Gaye’s album, Let’s Get It On, out of the open windows. The only thing for sale is bottled beer in a slim fridge. The homemade wooden benches outside have been well sat on. This is someone’s passion project. “I just want a tiny place to spin old vinyl, and sit outside, and smoke, and drink a beer! Is that so hard?” Done.
Because winds howl, mountains are treacherous, demons snarl and show their fangs. Books are repositories of lives, the only thing that outlasts time. We need a sturdy book for travel into true territory. For resurrection, magic, truth, transformation.
We meet weekdays at 1:00 PM, EST; 10:00 AM, PST. We’re calling it WRITERS DAILY DIVE. We write for an hour in companionable silence. It’s strange how comforting it is to show up and see other writers writing. Who knew?
